There were at least six attempts at genocide during the 20th Century:

1915-1918: Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire (1.5 million killed)
1932-1933: Starvation of Ukrainians by the USSR and Josef Stalin (7 million killed)
1937-1938: Rape of Nanking by Japanese (300,000 killed)
1938-1945: Nazi Holocaust of European Jews (6 million killed)
1975-1979: Pol Pot Murder of Cambodians (2 million killed)
1983- ?: Atrocities Committed During Second Sudanese Civil War (1.9
million civilians killed, 4 million refugees)
1994: Rwandan Genocide (800,000 killed)

1992-1995: Bosnia-Herzegovinia Genocide (200,000 killed)


What is genocide?
Genocide is the killing of a race, or a religious group. Genocide was introduced as a term in 1944 by Raphael Lemkinn, who said a crime needed to be created that would explain the mass killings that occurred in Nazi Germany.

What are the causes of genocide?
